GoDaddy is known to most people as the biggest and largest web hosting company and has also been known for relatively cheap prices. However, behind of all this, they have several shady tactics up their sleeves. I have had an account with them for about two to three years now with no issues whatsoever. However, I get an email on April 17th with the following message: "We have received complaints that you are involved in sending unsolicited email messages for/from the following domain(s): -----.us." They were informed by someone that received spam from someone that I had no relation to. This person sent an email that contained a link to my site and it was reported by the receiver.
GoDaddy stated that it is my responsibility to police my sites users and to prevent them from sending out email with my site link. Now everyone knows that it is impossible to do that! There is nothing I nor you can do to stop someone from sending an email out to someone else with a link to your site in the email. It’s just not possible, no matter what you say on your site or in your Terms. To make a long story short, they gave me two options to deal with this issue that they said was my fault. I could either pay them a $199 fee to "clean-up" the spam or pay them a $75 fee and I would be ordered to immediately transfer the domain to another provider within 24 hours.
I found this outrageous and refused to pay. I called and spoke with a representative soon after receiving this email. After speaking for 5-10 minutes, the customer support rep said that if I replied to the email stating that I would agree to immediately transfer the domain away, I would not be charged any fee. This is what I did but then I received an email response back saying that I had to agree to pay the $75 fee as well. This was just absurd now. I threatened to get a lawyer involved and such and they ending up letting me transfer the domain to another provider free of charge. Going to choose GoDaddy to host your websites? Hopefully this makes you think otherwise. Just be careful out there.
