Go Daddy $1.99 Domains 468x60

        Godaddy Review

By: Yinan C

When one thinks of GoDaddy, domain registration usually comes to mind. However, GoDaddy also offers a complete set of hosting solutions. Since GoDaddy's service for domains is excellent, you might be lead to thinking that its hosting solutions are also top-notch. However, the quality of GoDaddy's hosting service is not quite up to par with expectations set by its domain registry service.

Godaddy Hosting Review

GoDaddy's hosting, while not horrible, is certainly not anything worthy of praise. Like many hosts, GoDaddy's plans offer generous amounts of space and bandwidth for the price but its customer support, FTP speeds, and stability when using PHP scripts leave many things to question. Customer support tickets at GoDaddy usually do not get answered the same day they are submitted for shared hosting accounts. In my own experience working with various clients on GoDaddy hosting accounts, the average response time is about 24 hours. That means a support ticket posted today gets answered tomorrow. While this is acceptable for hobbyist sites, it is certainly not acceptable for mission critical sites. The quality of knowledge that the support staff has is usually limited. They know how to reset your account and troubleshoot some basic things. If you ask them advanced questions about server settings or things of that nature, it generally takes longer to get an answer. For a developer like myself asking questions about their PHP settings, it usually takes 3 or 4 tries to get a good answer. Another thing about GoDaddy that should be pointed out is their FTP speeds and timeouts. FTP speeds for transferring text files are decently fast but for transferring anything over 2MB, I found the transfer rate to be very slow and at times, it will even get stuck in the middle of a transfer. This is not good if you want to host a download site. The third thing that you should watch out for at GoDaddy is server stability and suspension of accounts when using PHP scripts. While there's no solid number for % of resources used before suspension of an account. However, your account will be suspended without notice if your site's resource requirements are causing trouble for other customers on the same server. GoDaddy also tends to overload their servers so performance during peak hours tends to be slow and at times unreliable.

 Overall Review Of Godaddy

Given all these factors, I can only give GoDaddy a 4/10 for their hosting services based on my own experience with them.
